With the rainy season underway, it’s finally time for the young palms to leave the nursery and be planted in their new homes: the farmers’ palm groves. However, this critical stage comes with significant challenges and requires meticulous preparation.
The dedicated farmers have spent weeks preparing their fields: removing old tree stumps, plowing, marking, and digging planting holes. This process demands not only resources but also excellent organization:
🚜 Limited tractor availability: With few tractors in the region, farmers often need to wait their turn to rent one.
🌍 Hard ground: After the dry season, the soil becomes tough, making digging holes by hand particularly challenging.
🚚 Transportation hurdles: Few vehicles are available, and their poor condition often causes breakdowns, putting the young palms at risk under the harsh sun.
For the farmers, this is a race as the palms must be planted quickly to thrive during the rains.
💡 How RougeCongo is supporting farmers:
– By providing financial relief by selling the palm seedlings at subsidized prices.
– By helping coordinate tractor rentals and organize the transport of seedlings.
– By centralizing farmers’ requests for plowing, we streamline operations, ensuring tractors and vehicles are used efficiently.
This support is helping farmers overcome logistical challenges and successfully establish their palm groves. 🌴
