In 2020, sub-Saharan Africa recorded the highest food waste of any region in the world, with 21.4% of food lost on the agricultural value chain. (This number does not include food waste from retail, households, and food services).
The agricultural value chain is a complex process in which each step plays a vital role in ensuring a sustainable and efficient food system. In many parts of Africa, limited development and financing have hindered the growth of the phases in the value chain, especially processing and storage.
At AlphaSeeds, we are dedicated to closing the financing gap in the agricultural value chain. We believe that by investing in and supporting the development of sustainable and replicable business models, we can foster a sustainable and profitable African agricultural sector.
