In May, RougeCongo brought together local authorities, farmers, and government representatives for a vital workshop on bushfire prevention in the Kongo Central region.
As the dry season approaches, the risk of fires spreading through tall grasses surrounding smallholder oil palm plantations increases dramatically. To address this, RougeCongoโalongside the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmentโled a community awareness and training session.
๐ฉ๐พโ๐พ Over 30 participants, including women farmers, agronomists, and local leaders, discussed:
๐ฅ Firebreak strategies
๐ฟ Responsible land clearing
๐ผ The economic value of protecting plantations
The workshop led to concrete outcomes, including the production of a short awareness film and the drafting of a circular by the territorial administration, both shared with local communities.
By encouraging collective action and awareness, RougeCongo strengthens both local agriculture and the regional economy.
