Since our investment in 2022, AlphaSeeds has been committed alongside RougeCongo to developing sustainable and responsible agriculture in the DRC. RougeCongo’s goal is to revitalize palm oil cultivation while promoting an agroecological model that integrates ecological, social, and economic dimensions for a positive impact.
🌴 A Unique Agroecological Palm Plantation Model
RougeCongo goes beyond producing high-quality, locally sourced palm oil by adopting an innovative approach: integrating palm plantations with fruit trees and complementary crops.
🍊 Diversifying to Strengthen Production
RougeCongo encourage smallholder farmers to enrich their plantations with mango trees, safoutiers (an indigenous fruit similar to avocados), avocado trees, citrus trees, and banana plants. These trees:
✅ Increase the biodiversity of the plots 🌿
✅ Provide additional income through the sale of fruits in urban markets 💰
✅ Enable faster production, with banana plants yielding fruit within just a few months 🍌
🔥 Fertilizing and Energy-Producing Trees
At the same time, RougeCongo distributes fast-growing trees such as acacias and leucaenas, nitrogen-fixing legumes that enrich the soil and later serve as fuel in the form of charcoal.
📈 Concrete Impact
Since 2022, more than 15,000 additional trees (beyond palm trees) have been planted by RougeCongo‘s partner farmers.
